I reported here in mid-June that the first batch of Dutch Pinball Exclusive's new pinball machine Alice's Adventures in wonderland were scheduled to ship to the United States. Well they finally have begun to arrive. The distributor Great American Pinball just shared a post on social media showing two Alice machines arriving at its warehouse. Last week, For Amusement Only Games, creator of the "Drained" module for the Multimorphic P3 pinball system sent out the latest issue of its quarterly newsletter. In it they revealed the title and some details about their new, upcoming game for the P3..."Steelbound." It sounds as though the game isn't an actual module, but rather downloadable software that is compatible with a whopping eight other physical Multimorphic P3 playfield modules. That's a really interesting concept. Players can complete the game on one module, so they don't have to own all of the compatible playfields to play it. The compatible modules are: - Lexy Lightspeed: Escape From Earth - Cannon Lagoon - Cosmic Cart Racing - Heist - Weird Al's Museum of Natural Hilarity - Drained - Final Resistance - The Princess Bride https://steelboundpinball.com/ Here's what they had to say about the game in the newsletter: "I'm excited to announce the title of my newest game: Steelbound! The game is a very unique mixture of role-playing and pinball - take control of a protagonist just finishing high school, and on the cusp of a series of important decisions that alter the course of their life. As you navigate the world, you may encounter and befriend a variety of characters, each with their own struggles that you can help them overcome. Steelbound is compatible with eight different playfield modules. The entire game can be completed on a single playfield, but swapping modules allows you to meet and experience more of the game. Aside from forming bonds with these characters, you also pilot a combat robot to explore procedurally-generated dungeons. Changing modules allows you to befriend new characters, which can improve your character's stats or provide upgrades for your combat mech! As you play, you will also experience a variety of mini-games. You may deepen your bonds with those you have already met by spending time playing games like darts, bowling, or miniature golf (with a pinball, naturally). Explore the world and navigate through dungeons, you'll encounter a variety of enemies and experience a mystery that concerns the future of pinball. For location play, there is a separate mode that removes the narrative structure, bringing combat front and center. Let's talk about my incredible collaborators: This game features dozens of original compositions from Charles Wolf Music, who has previously composed the music for Drained, Drained Bite-Sized, and re-orchestrated the Quest for Glory homebrew. These pieces are a fun fusion of rock, funk, and jazz, and mesh very well with the artwork and gameplay elements of Steelbound. There is unique music everywhere in game. Aside from the soundtrack, Charles has also composed a suite of sound effects to match. You can listen to the music (88 tracks, as of this writing!) from Steelbound on Charles' Soundcloud page here. Speaking of artwork: the award-winning cartoonist Jon Chad is producing the entirety of the 2D art package for the game! As primarily a pinball audience, you may be familiar with his work as one of the duo that published the excellent Drop Target Zine/Omnibus, or the author and illustrator of Pinball: A Graphic History of the Silver Ball (both highly recommended, along with all his work). While the majority of the artwork is 2D, each character you encounter has also been modeled in 3D and animated by Soliu Jamiu - rendered using dynamic lighting in each of the 2D environments illustrated by Jon. Soliu's expressive animation work supplements the characters in their interactions within the world of Steelbound. There are a number of ways that Steelbound utilizes the unique strengths and characteristics of the P3, which have not yet been seen in other games. I'm so excited to share more in coming newsletters. You'll also see the Steelbound website updated over time - be sure to check it out (early and often)! If you would like to share your support with the world, you may now purchase Steelbound mugs, posters, and t-shirts! Thank you for supporting indie pinball."
