Walkthrough of Two of NYC's Most Famous Arcades; The History of Pac-Man; JAWS - Comparison of the 50th & LE

Yesterday I shared a video walkthrough of the huge new Brooklyn, NY pinball bar Scrappleland. I have two more arcade walkthrough videos for everyone today. First up, It's everybody's favorite NYC dive bar, Jackbar. Jackbar is the OG of NYC's current pinball scene. Jon always has an amazing lineup of perfectly maintained games on location. It’s a must visit for pinball fans in the city.
Today's second video I took of NYC’s iconic speakeasy pinball bar Sunshine Laundromat. It's back Baby! I ventured into Brooklyn with my two boys to meet up with my brother at Sunshine about a week before all heck broke loose with COVID. The location has been through a lot since then, shutting down like everything else during the pandemic, then opening back up only to be shut down by inspectors, then finally opening with only a few pinball machines, to now being pretty much fully back. Sunshine currently boasts 15 pins, including some super rare ones like The Big Lebowski and Batman 66 Super LE. It doesn’t have the enclosed sunroom full of pins any more, so it will never reach its high water mark for games but it’s still a super cool place and one of the more unique arcade bars in the country.
I've got one more video tour from this weekend's Arcade Road Trip to share with everyone tomorrow. This one is never before seen video of a place that hasn't opened to the public yet. Stay tuned!
The BBC recently published a great article about the history of the arcade GOAT, Pac-Man: 'It's a reminder of childhood': How Pac-Man changed gaming - and the world p0lt4b76.jpg.webp p0lt4bbf.jpg.webp p0lt49pm.jpg.webp
This next game isn't technically a classic arcade game. In fact, it's not even out yet. But...it looks fantastic and it reminds me of the classic Beat 'Em Up arcade games of the early 90s, such as Capcom's 1992 game X-Men, Data East's 1991 game Captain America and The Avengers and even Konami's 1989 game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Who doesn't love coming across that monstrous 6-Player Capcom X-Men cabinet in the wild? That game is amazing. Coming out later this year from Tribute Games, "Marvel Cosmic Invasion" screams nostalgia. It makes sense because it's from the same developer that came out with the modern tribute to TNMT, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge in 2022. The media blitz for the game is in full swing, with several previews floating around the Internet today. Here's a link to one by Inverse. I can't wait for this game to come out! Our friends over at the Vintage Vault Arcade in Mukwonago, Wisconsin just took delivery of the new Stern Pinball JAWS 50th Anniversary Premium pinball machine. Despite journeying to four arcades last weekend, I have not had a chance to see it in person yet. So they were kind enough to send over pictures of it for me to share with everyone. I figured that they would be perfect to share here so that we can compare and contrast them with today's "Game of the Day," which happens to be Stern's JAWS Limited Edition. Thanks for the pics James! aa2be043-e7f6-4562-bdc2-d4cc6fc593c2.jfif 11eec568-b821-47ab-bc8a-2253df91cb6a.jfif 0fe308cc-6322-4901-b5de-12b6ddaa5997.jfif 9bfa6f07-7786-4a56-bc19-014d56cbd69b.jfif cf870ffe-f538-4c47-ac67-eb1edbaf7fd8.jfif
Game of the Day 2024 Stern Pinball JAWS 🦈 Limited Edition pinball machine with the official topper. 1,000 units produced. Designed by Keith Elwin, with art by Michael Barnard and code by Rick Naegele and Elizabeth Gieske. It’s not always the case with LEs, but to me the JAWS LE is by far the best looking of the four versions. The wire powder coating looks great. The speaker lights add to the aquatic effect nicely. I even like the official topper better than I thought I would.
